MLD
MLD is the solo project of Stéphane Mourgues (Hello Bye Bye, Dj Moule), who navigates between acid techno and retro-futuristic synthwave sounds, staging a dystopian science-fiction universe in which war breaks out between humans and machines.
The musician is particularly fond of the acid sounds generated by, among others by the legendary Roland TB303, and falls somewhere in the middle between Arnaud Rebotini’s raw approach to live music and French79’s pop approach to techno.
MLD’s live set-up is “oldschool”: no computer, just synchronized analog synths. With this approach, the musician is without a safety net, musicality takes on its full meaning here, and the set can evolve according to the feeling of the moment and the sonic whims of the synths, which are by nature fickle and unstable.
This idea of live operation comes in part from Stéphane’s background, who made his electronic debut equipped with a Roland MC303 and a mini sampler at free parties in the late 90s.
